Davey's Voice brings another four Yulin Dog Meat Festival survivors to the United States with the help of the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation
"The Yulin initiative has been a terrific example of teamwork and collaboration between numerous animal welfare groups, as well as fosters, adopters, volunteers, and donors, in order to not only save lives today, but also tomorrow. As House Resolution 752 (which takes a formal stand against the Yulin Dog Meat Festival) makes it's way through Congress, we have high hopes that the Festival's end is impending. Together, we will continue to be the voice for the voiceless animals both here in the United States and in the most dire of circumstances overseas.”
-Gretchen Lieff, Davey’s Voice Founder
Davey's Voice has brought another four survivors from the barbaric Yulin Dog Meat Festival to loving homes in the U.S, with help from Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation. Maya, Sammy, Milo and Paco are four highly adoptable pups who have just arrived in United States. Likely stolen from their families in China, these pups, along with thousands of others, were crammed into small dirty cages without food or water, and headed for slaughter at the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. The torture that typically precedes the death of Yulin dogs was not in the stars for Maya, Sammy, Milo and Paco. Instead, they were intercepted and rescued by the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation along with numerous other dogs.
Maya, Sammy, Milo and Paco have now joined their fellow survivors in California, who have all found new loving homes. Davey's Voice has now been able to bring a total of fifteen rescued pups home to the U.S. However, met with red tape and tremendous cost (close to triple what was originally anticipated) and a lack of the manpower necessary, the Board of Davey's Voice faced our limits. Maya, Sammy, Milo and Paco will be the last additions to our furry team of 15 "Yulin Ambassadors" for 2016. Davey's Voice is proud of our efforts in rescuing and responsibly adopting out 15 Yulin pups in non-high-kill areas of the U.S. We wish we could have brought more home, but the resources required are prohibitive, and would have been detrimental to our other important initiatives protecting the welfare of animals at the local level (in addition, animal rescue is not the primary activity of Davey's Voice). Davey's Voice, the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation (AHWF) and Soi Dog are working with other reputable rescue groups, as well as independently, in order to find loving homes for the remaining pups rescued from Yulin. AHWF has also kindly funded the flights from China to the US, vetting and care for Maya, Sammy, Milo and Paco. Davey's Voice would like to extend a huge and sincere thank you to Marc Ching, Valerie Ianiello and AHWF, as well as Soi Dog and John Dalley for their help and support with placements, transport and care of these precious pups.
Another thank you goes out to Davey's Voice Board Member Deborah Hall, our International liaison, who has put blood sweat and tears into this heart-wrenching initiative, including bravely spending several weeks in China, and bringing on board Soi Dog and other agencies to assist. Deborah has decided that now is the time to step down from the Davey's Voice Board. Davey's Voice is eternally grateful for all the hard work expended by Deborah with this initiative to raise awareness of the cruelty associated with the YulinDog Meat Festival.
Davey's Voice could not have saved the Yulin 15 from a horrific fate without the support of our kind hearted donors or without the help of AHWF. The following photos, which show the adoptive families of the Yulin 15 so far, would not have been a reality without their generosity.
Ten survivors have already begun their new lives. Five more await their forever homes.
These five Yulin survivors are still searching for their forever homes!
